Soapstone is a metamorphic rock that is composed primarily of mineral talc and hence it is usually very soft. It is typically gray, bluish, green or brown in color, often variegated. This has been used in India for centuries as a medium for traditional carvings. Soapstone is used for inlaid designs, sculpture, coasters, and kitchen countertops and sinks.
